At some stage FB are gonna get hammered in the EU by the GDPR .. expect this to happen if the UK brexit without a deal and the EU find themselves £39bn short :))

This sort of thing makes me glad I'm not using Android anymore. I wonder what the stats are for iOS apps. I also don't use a lot of apps besides the default ones, just a few to watch DRM videos, listen to music and read books on my phone.

Not surprised, rather figured it'd be more like 99.9975% ... they all seem to want to help you share this with your friends on FB anymore... really frustrating when one is trying to kick the fb habit. I generally avoid testing out apps on my phone. I always delete all the pre-installed trial stuff and have managed to whittle it down to 1 and 1/2 screens of apps... i roll my eyes watching others scroll thru page after page of apps

Dunno, but I watched this earlier

I don't have time to watch it now, but thanks for posting that. I'll take a look at it later.

I think in today's world, there's not much you can do to not have someone, somewhere spying on you. Even if you're running Linux and you have nothing on your system collecting usage data, your ISP likely is. Welcome to the world of nothing is private. ::)

Yeah, this is not good news for Android users.  That did prompt me to disable and force stop Chrome browser in favor of Ghostery (which is based on Mozilla's code), and to to disable Android's Messages in favor of Signal.  A month ago I removed Gmail from my phone.  But, yeah, location, location, location...Google sure knows where I am.

The Librem 5 phones looks good, but I had been enthusiastic about the Ubuntu's erstwhile phone plans that came to naught.  Google's too big.  Sooner or later there will have to be legislation to break Google (Alphabet) up.  The smart thing would be for Google to change its privacy policies de pronto, but I'm not holding my breath for that to happen.

[EDIT]

Just told a friend on the phone I was in the process of posting here.  Then he sent me this link below by Tom Spring for Threatpost:

How Facebook Tracks Non-Users via Android Apps

https://threatpost.com/how-facebooks-tracks-non-users-via-android-apps/140436/

So to answer the original question, Is this better or worse than you thought?

My answer:  It's considerably worse than I thought! :o

<-- feeling kinda smug, if not entirely 'private' on my iPhone.

It's fikin outragious that Google manage to track users on iPhones more than Apple do ::)

Can't stand Apple, but in a privacy contest I'd trust em more than Google.
(not that that's sayin much)

It's a terrific idea, grafiksinc.  I nearly installed CyanogenMod a year and a half ago, but I was afraid of screwing up and bricking my phone.  Shortly thereafter, Cyanogen Inc. went belly up.  LineageOS is a fork of CyanogenMod.  If what I saw in Wikipedia is true, development is very slow at LineageOS.  Cheap smart phones (TracFones) here in the US are already running Oreo while LineageOS's development has stalled with Marshmallow.

It's a great idea -- replacing AndroidOS.  I wish we could swap out Android for a more privacy respecting open source alternative.  Unfortunately Android, which is open source, isn't very respectful of users' privacy.  At one time I had high hopes for CyanogenMod.  All I know now is that LineageOS isn't in the limelight like CyanogenMod once was, development is slow, and it doesn't support the model of the LG Tribute phone I have now.
