Greetings

I have this Asus TP2000s with Win 10 on it.  the small hard drive is full, but it has an SD card slot also.  So I tried installing Peppermint 9 on the SD card.  I partitioned the 32 GB  SD card as ext 4.  installed peppermint on it, and when I rebooted  I got a blank screen with a flashing cursor.   So I rebooted and hit the escape key, and brouht up a bios boot menu.  I booted successfully on windows 10, a good thing.  But when I selected ubuntu, I get a grub prompt  Version 2.02.  with a grub> prompt

I did go into the bios and change the boot order  for windows first.  but if I hit esc I can change which device boots first.  I was asked when I installed peppermint when I wanted the grub menu, and I accepted the default which is on the windows drive.
I did an ls and got the following response.

(hd0) (hd0,gpt4) (hd0,gpt3) (hd0,gpt2) (hd0,gpt1)

What command should I use to launch peppermint or can I do this, or do I need to start over?

Thanks

Did you actually boot the Peppermint live USB on that machine? If so, can you give us the output of

Code: [Select]
inxi -Fz

(hd0) (hd0,gpt4) (hd0,gpt3) (hd0,gpt2) (hd0,gpt1)

That looks like your SD card is not being seen at the time of boot, which could mean no drivers are loaded for the card reader.

EDIT: I'm not sure though. Did you have a USB drive plugged in when you got that?

I meant the "ls" when you got the GRUB prompt.

It might be worth reading the tips here, this might have a similar BIOS:

Sorry!   yes I had the USB drive removed when I got the result of the ls command.  I see there is no hd1 listed.  Only the Win 10 Hard Drive.  I may not be able to dual boot.

I will read the thread you mentioned...Thanks.

Yes, some devices just can't boot from an external SD. I'd suggest installing Peppermint to the fastest USB drive you can use.

There might be a different boot manager you could use but only if it includes the drivers for the SD reader. I don't know.

OK Based on everything I have read I can't dual boot this device. I have gone back to Win 10,  I appreciate the effort murraymint went to research this issue, Even though I have an SD card with a large drive, the BIOS doesn't load it at startup.   :'( .    I will continue to research if there is some way to load it from an SD card.  perhaps a way to load it as a persistent image. My question to the forum is should I mark this solved?

Thanks for a great forum.

You can dual boot via USB can't you? Peppermint can be fully installed to a USB stick/SSD/hard drive.

I wouldn't mark it solved but something like [ABANDONED] has been used before.
