Troubles installing PM9 on Acer 5715Z laptop [SOLVED]
« on: December 03, 2018, 03:19:09 pm »
I have an old Acer Aspire 5715Z laptop which was running an old version of Elementary OS. I want to replace it with PM9 but I run into some strange problems.

During boot up of the "Live" USB there are many messages. Booting up goes very slow. The first few lines of the messages are:

Code: [Select]
[0.151649] ACPI BIOS error (bug) : \_SB.PCIO._OSC: excess arguments - ASL declared 5 ACPI requires 4 (20170831/nsarguments-198)
[12.313517] [DRM Intel_CPU_fifo_underrun_irq_handle] [i915] *ERROR* cpu pipe B FIFO underrun
[22.752104] [drm:drm_atomic_helper_wait_for_flip_done [drm_kms_helper]] *ERROR* [CRTC:34:pipe A] flip_done timed out

And so the messages continue for some time. In the end I was unable to install PM9. The funny thing is, with Elementary OS the laptop just did fine .... it was, however, an old version, based on Ubuntu 14.04.

Does anybody have any ideas?

Thank you in advance,

Try adding the
Code: [Select]
video=SVIDEO-1:d
kernel boot parameter.

If you don't know how .. just ask ;)

The action made it possible to install PM. Unfortunately it seems not to be permanent because the boot up is extremely slow, and the same messages pop up.

Is there a way to overcome the slow boot up?

Thank you in advance, and with kind regards,

Run:
Code: [Select]
sudo xed /etc/default/grub
Find the line that reads:-
Code: [Select]
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash"
and change it to:-
Code: [Select]
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash video=SVIDEO-1:d"
SAVE the file and exit the text editor.

Back in the terminal, run:
Code: [Select]
sudo update-grub
now reboot to test.
