USB Sticks won't Load
« on: December 02, 2018, 08:18:19 am »
P9 on two different machines, so I don't think it's a hardware issued.  Tried two different sticks,

They show up under "disks" but are otherwise inaccessible to put content on or off of them.  They won;t load so as to be usable for files, etc.

Both worked fine on these machines before and work fine at my work PC (Win10)

What did I change by mistake and / or what am I doing wrong?

Do they show up in the left-hand column of the file manager (click on the icon like a drawer of a filing cabinet, near the menu button)?

No.  Thy only show up under Menu->settings-> disks. But I can't do anything with them there.  They do NOT show up in File Manager.  Weird.

You could try this to have the behaviour that was in Peppermint 8

https://forum.peppermintos.com/index.php/topic,7102.0.html

if that's what you want.

I can do it manually since that appears to keep the install smaller which is my goal. I'll try to find some directions on how to manually mount them . . . .

So they're NOT showing up under "Devices" in the file manager .. like this:-

Correct, they do NOT show up under devices.  Only under Menu->settings->disks,  And the only option available there is to power them off, I can;t do ANYTHNG else with them.  And again, two different USB sticks on two different machines running P9,

Niw that you mention it, I don;t even have "devices" on my tree.

In the file manager, if you go to

View > Sidebar

Is "Places" selected ?

Yes.  I was able to get one of them to show finally after formatting it .  The other one?  Who knows, I think it may have given up the ghost because it won't show anywhere now.

Anyway, thanks for the help.  I got one of them back (the importatnt one).

i find formatting usbs to ntfs tends to work the best, also check if the usb mount tools like pmount are installed. its a weird issue ive encountered a few times
