was about to update untill... Then it was solved

Could not download all repository indexes

The repository may no longer be available or could not be contacted because of network problems. If available an older version of the failed index will be used. Otherwise the repository will be ignored. Check your network connection and ensure the repository address in the preferences is correct.

The repository 'cdrom://Peppermint 9 (20180621) - Release amd64 bionic Release' does not have a Release file.

Is everything all right? what does this mean? (in laymen terms)
hear is this if neccesary.

Are you running Peppermint from a LiveUSB ?

if not, what's the contents of
Code: [Select]
xed /etc/apt/sources.list
?

If that file starts with the line
Code: [Select]
deb cdrom:[Peppermint 9 (20180621) - Release amd64]/ bionic main multiverse restricted universe
close the text editor.

then back in the terminal run:
Code: [Select]
gksudo xed /etc/apt/sources.list
and change the line:-
Code: [Select]
deb cdrom:[Peppermint 9 (20180621) - Release amd64]/ bionic main multiverse restricted universe
to:-
Code: [Select]
# deb cdrom:[Peppermint 9 (20180621) - Release amd64]/ bionic main multiverse restricted universe
SAVE the file, and exit the text editor.

Back in the terminal run:
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get update
and you should now get no errors.

First off not on a LiveUSB.
it was exactly as you put it so I edited it to have the # in front of the entire thing. then proceeded to update it. and no errors.
THANKS!

You're most welcome hankishenry, normally that line gets automatically commented out during the install .. so dunno what happened there :-\

I'm getting the same message quite frequently.  I don't know what to make of it.

Then I wait a few minutes and everything is back to the way it should be:

It's a rainy night.  Maybe I am having a network connection problem.  I know I was modifying my post and not double posting.  My connection did experience a hiccup for a moment. :-\

Yeah.  Thanks, PCNetSpec.  Can I run a command to see which mirror I'm using?

All is clear on the western front...

Hi VinDSL,

I wish I could say the same, but I guess the rain has stopped.  Would you happen to know by chance a command that could tell me where the mirror I'm using is located?  Might it be located in Massachusetts or New York perhaps?

This is the output when I run that command:

Would you happen to know by chance a command that could tell me where the mirror I'm using is located?  Might it be located in Massachusetts or New York perhaps?

Not off the top of my head. However, curl is your friend.

If you have curl installed, you can find the fastest mirror, for your IP.

Example:

Code: [Select]
╭─vindsl@Boogaloo-6 ~
╰─$ curl -s http://mirrors.ubuntu.com/mirrors.txt | xargs -n1 -I {} sh -c 'echo `curl -r 0-102400 -s -w %{speed_download} -o /dev/null {}/ls-lR.gz` {}' |sort -g -r |head -1| awk '{ print $2  }'

http://mirrors.arpnetworks.com/Ubuntu/
╭─vindsl@Boogaloo-6 ~
╰─$

Takes awhile - be patient  :)

Here are a few commands I find useful for checking which repos are enabled...

List the contents of /etc/apt/sources.list and the contents of all files (PPA's) at /etc/apt/sources.list.d
Code: [Select]
cat /etc/apt/sources.list; for X in /etc/apt/sources.list.d/*; do echo; echo; echo "** $X:"; echo; cat $X; done
List the contents of /etc/apt/sources.list and ONLY ACTIVE PPA's
Code: [Select]
cat /etc/apt/sources.list; for X in /etc/apt/sources.list.d/*.list; do echo; echo; echo "** $X:"; echo; cat $X; done
List just PPA's at /etc/apt/sources.list.d
Code: [Select]
for X in /etc/apt/sources.list.d/*; do echo; echo; echo "** $X:"; echo; cat $X; done
List ONLY ACTIVE PPA's at /etc/apt/sources.list.d
Code: [Select]
for X in /etc/apt/sources.list.d/*.list; do echo; echo; echo "** $X:"; echo; cat $X; done

List active PPA's by LAUNCHPAD NAME ONLY .. this is useful for things like 'ppa-purge', etc.
Code: [Select]
for APT in `find /etc/apt/ -name \*.list`; do grep -o "^deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/[a-z0-9\-]\+/[a-z0-9\-]\+" $APT | while read ENTRY ; do USER=`echo $ENTRY | cut -d/ -f4` PPA=`echo $ENTRY | cut -d/ -f5` ; echo ppa:$USER/$PPA ; done ; done
WARNING: You are logged into reality as 'root' .. logging in as 'insane' is the only safe option.
