Can I suggest you copy/paste these commands to a text file .. then copy it to the Peppermint PC .. then copy/paste the commands to the terminal, because you're mistyping them ;)

The command I asked you to run was
Code: [Select]
ls /home/patricia/Desktop
yet you ran
Code: [Select]
/home/patricia/Desktop
If I had to guess, I'd say something similar happened when you tried to follow my earlier instructions.

Sorry--missed the ls. Let me try again.

This gave me something interesting:

b43 broadcom-sta-dkms_6.30.223.271-8_all.deb  dkms_2.3-3ubuntu9.2_all.deb

Looks like the contents of the file.

I'm delighted to report that I went back to the beginning and found my initial error, and the HP Mini is now on the internet. Problem solved, and I thank you all for your patience with this new user.

One more noob question if I may: how do I mark this thread as SOLVED?

Hi Robbert, if you post the output from:
Code: [Select]
lspci -vnn | grep -i net
we'll be able to tell you if the above instructions will work.

if not, hopefully we'll be able to tell you what will

Can you also mention whether you're able to connect to the internet via an ethernet cable ?
