AutoHotkey alternative on Linux?
« on: August 02, 2014, 03:34:58 pm »
Hello everyone,

I am not actually running Peppermint yet,  but am planning on doing so soon. I am currently considering a move from Windows to Linux and one of the main things I will really miss is AutoHotkey.  Does anyone here have experience with AHK, know how useful it is, and know of an alternative on Linux?

As an example of what it can do,  I just now wanted so save myself some clicking in my CAT tool (translation software) to add selected terms to my glossary, so wrote this in 5 minutes:

;-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------*
; ! = Alt
; ^ = Control
; # = windows
; + = shift
; {Right} = Right arrow
;-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------*
Numpad4::             ; numberpad 4 send to QUESTIFY
SendInput !g!4
return
;-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------*
Numpad2::             ; numberpad 2 send to PHRASES glossary
SendInput !g!3
return
;-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------*
Numpad1::             ; numberpad 1 send to GLOSSARY glossary
SendInput !g!2
return
;-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------*
Numpad5::             ; numberpad 5 send to Non-translatable fragments glossary
SendInput ^!j{enter}
return
;-----------------------------------------------------------***

Have you tried autokey ?

It's available in the repos:
Code: [Select]
apt install autokey
