2080ti and nvidia 410.57 drivers (SOLVED)
« on: October 13, 2018, 11:19:47 am »
I am planning to take in near future new nvidia card 2080 or 2070.
But as I read for that I need 410.57 drivers. Is posible to instal that drivers in peppermint.
If is posible can someone explain me how?

First let me say I haven't tested this YET (so USE AT YOUR OWN RISK)...

But you should be able to follow these instructions
https://askubuntu.com/questions/1025931/no-hardware-working-on-ubuntu-16-04-kernel-4-4-0-78-generic/1025949#1025949

but instead of adding the repo for 16.04 or 17.10 .. instead for Peppermint 9 use:
Code: [Select]
sudo bash -c 'echo "deb http://developer.download.nvidia.com/compute/cuda/repos/ubuntu1804/x86_64 /" > /etc/apt/sources.list.d/cuda.list'to add the repo for 18.04
(if you follow the URL in that command you'll see that repo contains the 410.48 drivers (not quite 410.57 but still the 410 series).

They are downloadable directly from nvidia:
https://www.nvidia.com/Download/driverResults.aspx/138279/en-us

but again I have no idea how easy/hard they are to install .. I haven't installed them that way in years.

I wouldn't be surprised if that 410.57 driver appears in the developer repository that PCNetSpec had you add pretty soon. Installing them manually used to be pretty easy, and how I usually did it. But, Canonical themselves made it much harder many years ago.

nVidia 415.13 is in the wild now - just installed it.

I hadn't updated since 396.x and I was having troubles installing Linux 4.19 & 4.20 (Peppermint 9 install)

nVidia 415.13 took care of the problem(s).

Code: [Select]

╭─vindsl@Boogaloo-6 ~
╰─$ mokutil --sb-state

Just saying...  :)
