i had some bootup problems with an elitebook 2530p.
used a usb cardreader with an SD card, and used a DVD with a peppermint iso burnt to it but they would not boot.
what worked for me was putting the SD card straight in the SD card slot of the laptop and then made a bootable peppermint device with it.
(bios had a choice to boot up from SD card and activated that)

strange thing was that several distros like linux light, ore puppy linux had no problem with the usb card reader routing.

o, before i forget, if you get in the screen of peppermint with the bootmenu, have patience.
when used the enter key it took a while before it started
