Making Peppermint default boot on M6
« on: September 14, 2018, 11:12:25 pm »
I have never owned a EUFI system before, and this laptop wants to try and be a tablet. This system is up to date with Peppermint 9.

Anyway I very much need to make Peppermint the default boot option, please.

Code: [Select]
$ inxi -M
Machine:   Device: laptop System: Hewlett-Packard product: HP ENVY TS m6 Sleekbook v: 0883100022305B00000320100 serial: N/A
           Mobo: Hewlett-Packard model: 1995 v: 04.50 serial: N/A UEFI: Insyde v: F.18 date: 10/08/2015

$ inxi -C
CPU:       Quad core AMD A10-5745M APU with Radeon HD Graphics (-MCP-) cache: 8192 KB
           clock speeds: max: 2100 MHz 1: 1334 MHz 2: 1357 MHz 3: 1269 MHz 4: 1398 MHz

I have searched the Internet and I have not yet found much on it. Regards

What does your partition setup look like? I take it, since it's on a laptop, it's all one drive?

Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be much help, since I solved this little issue on my own computer by installing Peppermint 9 on a separate drive from Windows 10 and setting up UEFI to boot the Peppermint drive instead of the Windows one. But, answering those questions will help others help you.

I wonder if the solution is something like this (in the BIOS/firmware settings):

Quote
1. Go to boot configuration
2. Add a "Customized Boot"
3. Point "Customized Boot" to \EFI\ubuntu\grubx64.efi
4. Change UEFI boot order with "Customized Boot" on top.

Is there nothing like that anywhere in the HP settings menu?

I know that I tried /boot at both ends of the drive. I have to get back to this with the rest.

Open a terminal and run:
Code: [Select]
sudo efibootmgr -o 0001,0000,3000,2001,2002,2003
reboot to test.

Code: [Select]
sudo efibootmgr -o 0001,0000,3000,2001,2002,2003
Invalid BootOrder order entry value0001,0000,3000,2001,2002
                                                         ^
efibootmgr: entry 2002 does not exist

So just remove the 2002 from the command correct?

No sorry that did not work. I still booted into Windows. I searched on your command though and Yeah information is scarce on this issue.

I thought these were helpful if only to confirm what is obvious in the command.

We can't see in your private dropbox. You'll need to host it somewhere public.

Or create a link to the file itself in Dropbox.
