« on: August 17, 2018, 08:18:51 am »

But when installed and restarted Peppermint...

You don't have to run Thunderbird on Wine, there is a Linux version available from Software Manager or Synaptic.

I do not run Thunderbird from Wine... I only want to have Thunderbird also in the Menu
Same as Wine... I want to have it in the Menu... that's all...
I did try to install in in different ways... I don't know anymore but Winetricks I can find
but not a Wine under the Menu...
And I need Wine for a programming language called Pelle's C that runs under Wine
and is Window based... and I use also Paint Shop pro... no Gimp... it is ok but PSP
is what I use from years...
I can Install both Wine via software Peppermint and als Thunderbird... they are there
but not to see anywhere So ?????????

For Thunderbird .. open a terminal and run:
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get install thunderbird
it should now be in the menu at Menu > Internet > Thunderbird Email

for WINE try this, download the attachment (wine-launchers.tar.gz) in this posting
https://forum.peppermintos.com/index.php/topic,6265.msg63665.html#msg63665
and place it ON YOU DESKTOP.

Now open a terminal and run:
Code: [Select]
sudo mv ~/Desktop/wine-launchers.tar.gz /usr/share/applications/
then
Code: [Select]
cd /usr/share/applications
then
Code: [Select]
sudo tar xvf wine-launchers.tar.gz
then
Code: [Select]
sudo rm wine-launchers.tar.gz
Now see if the WINE apps are in the menu

If for some reason you decide you want to REMOVE the WINE launchers added above, run
Code: [Select]
cd /usr/share/applications
then
Code: [Select]
sudo rm wine.desktop wine-browsedrive.desktop wine-winecfg.desktop wine-notepad.desktop wine-uninstaller.desktop

Yes, thank You...
I'm used to Linux but a new distro always asks for searching
a bit how everything works... normal...
Glad it works all fine now...
Coming from Mint I did some hopping as trying MX Linux  and  others (Debian)...
They even didn't work... in the way that I have a 5th Gen Intel and so screen freezing...
loosing networking...
I had Peppermint in the past but I think it didn't have Xfce... and I was used to it...
Well it feels great and fast and Xfce... so what more do I need ?  ;)

Good to hear you're enjoying Peppermint, but we're not fully Xfce .. we take advantage of Linux modularity and open source licensing to bring 'best of breed' components from whichever DE together and mould them into a kind of hybrid DE.

I guess you already knew that though :)

I have found that Wine only shows up in the menu when you install a program through wine (which takes adding Wine to the list of "other programs"that offer themselves when you install).
A search found that I had Wine, but couldn't find it in the menu until I did the above.
Strangely, this was not a problem in Peppermint 8 - only in Peppermint 9.

It's the way they've packaged WINE for 18.04 .. nothing to do with us I'm afraid.
