We could make one that gives information only about blaupunkt USB sticks, and call it spot-fetch-stick :)

Okay that was what my son calls a "dad joke" :-[

So, what do you use all that power for, anything in particular? Or is it there just because it's cool? ;)

Personally, I've always liked HardInfo, available in the repositories:

That's the overview, I can also click on each core and get a lot of information on those. I can also benchmark the system with that program.

Because you never know when you'll need the horsepower so it doesn't hurt to have it....

In my case I used to have an AMD A10 quad core with 8GB RAM, that laptop used to take about 20 minutes to compress the squashfs for Peppermint and the laptop used to be worryingly too hot to touch by the time it was done. This Dell E series quad core i7 with 16GB takes about 2 minutes (if that)  by which time it's barely had time to raise a couple of degrees.

But sure it's overkill for the web browsing it generally does for the vast majority of the time.

As a side note - I've come to the conclusion Intel chips murder AMD at compression or probably anything floating point intensive. Or at least they did .. this may be old news now though with the Ryzens, which I gather have acquired a pretty good FPU themselves (?)

I didn't specifically buy the Dell for this, I bought it just because I could .. it was only when I did the PM8 respin ISO's I realised how damn fast it was at compression, with the added bonus it's built like a tank and makes me feel like the equivalent of a computing bodybuilder at a beach :))

So in my case, yeah I got the additional horsepower just to satisfy a mix of ego and enquiry .. but it turns out it actually has its uses :)

No, a lot of CPU power is never a bad thing. And, those truck simulators are cool. I have the American one. :)
