stuttering audio -- SOLVED!
« on: July 25, 2014, 05:56:46 pm »
I'm running a 5 yr old Acer AspireOne.  My audio stutters so badly. About 2-3x per second the audio cuts out completely. On, off, on, off, on, off. I tried radiotray, youtube, mp3, anything that creates sound. All the same. Prior to today, I had Peppermint 4 installed which ran great with no audio problems at all.  I just upgraded to Peppermint 5 and Now I get this horrible stuttering.  I get the same running Live from USB or from my installed.  Very disappointed!! :(  Can anyone help?

When playing audio and it's stuttering, can you post the output from:
Code: [Select]
free -m

PROBLEM SOLVED!

So I discovered it wasnt just audio, but video as well.  And what was really happening was that the framerate playback speed was way too fast. A 3 min mp3 would play in about 1.5 minutes.  A 1 minute youtube video would playback in about 30 seconds.  It appears that audio/video "frames" were being skipped causing the stuttering effect.
Solution.  Get rid of the pulseaudio packages and switch to alsa.  This fixed everything.

Here's where I went to for help:
