Peppermint OS 9 Is Awesome!
« on: July 07, 2018, 08:48:47 pm »
I really love how light it is on resources and I really like Advert Blocker as it has made the internet much faster and fun!  I love how peppermint can allow web apps so I can have everything at my fingertips like a true cloud based OS!  You developers continue to amaze and impress each time you put one out!  You are not just updating, you're innovating!  Keep it up!  :D

I concur!  Those Mióro$oft Office freebie online SSBs are pretty cool.
I usually use LibreOffice, but some spoilsports insist on MS files only, so those are handy add-ons.

Very Handy, I was surprised to see them and admit I do need to access that sort of thing at times.............google has a similar online office suite but, for me, the Microsoft seems more intuitive and universally accepted.

Word(online) can be used much like Dropbox and others can access the info if you want.

.....very surprised to see it :o but I like it!

I agree too,  I try not to use M$ stuff.  However having access to the online Office Suite is very handy  ;).

Glad you like the addition @plumtreed!  there were some back and forth arguments for and against their inclusion, but as @PCNetSpec noted... Peppermint've been accused of being too google inclined in the past... and felt having both sets of free versions available OOTB would allay that. All SSB's are easily removed to soothe the minds of the anti-MS or anti-GGL partisans...

For me.....I lean on the side of,  I would prefer not have any ICE Apps out of the box at all.  ;)
Cuz first thing I do is remove them all and add the things I need. Which in  my case is none of the stuff that comes pre-setup :P

As a whole that's really what make Peppermint a nice distro,  is that there almost nothing is installed. "Just enough for the essentials to work"
So I don't spend time removing bloatware.

With all that said, I'm not hating just giving my side for the story LOL  :D..... besides what is take all of a few seconds to remove the Ice apps I don't need any way.

Its like themes right no matter what you do, somebody ain't gonna be happy ......... :P

Hi grafiksinc,

I agree. I too remove ICE Apps (even though they consume (essentially) zero space) -- because I never use them. However, I do see that ICE is a great item for people who do use it !!  ;)

So, why do I remove the ICE Apps? Basically to clean up my whisker menu -- why have things there that I never use? Otherwise, ICE is super light-weight and does not slow your system down in any way. I guess I'm just too old and stuck in my ways to enjoy it ...  ::)

Regards,

Yep Ice isn't for everyone .. we only really have default SSB's to allow some functionality in a Live session. Ice is purely a tool like any other, if you don't use it feel free to remove it, it is not tied into the system in any way, it's just another user OPTION ;)

I am not quite sure if this is the right thread to congratulate the Peppermint OS team for the awesomeness.
Today, the hard drive on my old laptop crashed. I changed it and installed Peppermint 9. I like the colorful design out of the box. The only things I changed were the window button theme and the background on the startup screen. Versions 7 and 8 were great too, but I didn't like the default design. 9 is a great improvement.
