Kernel Panic crash Peppermint 9 Installer from USB
« on: June 29, 2018, 05:48:13 pm »
Note:  I have this same issue with Ubuntu Studio 18.04 on one of my computers, an HP dc5800 dual core desktop.   When I try to boot from the USB installer to install or try Peppermint 9, whether I choose try before installing or just straight to install, I get a Kernel panic crash.  Something to the effect of "Attempted to Kill INIT".   Computer is running Peppermint 6 now and I want to upgrade.   I know this is not Peppermint's fault, because Ubuntu Studio 18.04 does it as well, just looking for ideas.  None of the Ubuntu forums have an answer for it.   I checked all my BIOS settings, didn't see anything that (in my unlearned opinion) should make any difference.  Maybe the Kernel is too new for this machine?

Wow!  Thanks for the fast response so specific to my machine!!!   One question though, do you know a way to update the BIOS within Peppermint 6?   I don't have Windows on it, but maybe I can put it there long enough to run the BIOS update if push comes to shove...

Sorry my friend, but I don't give advice on BIOS updates .. too easy to cop the blame if things go wrong ;)

No problem!   I Googled it a little while ago and then was embarrassed that I had asked you, was going to update you about that.  Anyways, THANK YOU for your help!!!

No worries and good luck .. If you decide to go ahead with it, please let us know if the BIOS update fixes the issue.

Guys, your answers were SPOT on!   I downloaded the BIOS update onto a USB stick per info from the web, rebooted, went into the BIOS and updated it and bam!  Peppermint 9 booted and installed like a champ.  Thanks so much for your unexpectedly fast and specific help!  Peppermint and the open source community never cease to amaze me with their generosity of time, knowledge and talent!

Yeah, though we didn't actually do much here besides point you to the answer, it still beats these kinds of replies:-

Windows community - Here's a link to a system scanner you've never heard of (and included web browser extensions), that'll automagically fix you right up!!!

Mac community - Take it to a registered Mac dealership, what are you poor or something ?

:))
