New install on a thinkpad t540p with nvidia
« on: July 05, 2018, 12:28:53 pm »
So, I got this i7 thinkpad t540p with nvidia gpu for free. Rather heavy, but really nice screen.
My daughter running Bodhi on a hp elitebook 2570 asked me if she could have the thinkpad instead, as the screen is 16" instead of 13"... hmm!

I downloaded Bodhi 5.0 and wasted 3h trying to install Bodhi on the thinkpad. I've tried all things. I got it installed using safe graphics mode and running using the nouveau driver, but it was really unstable, every third or forth boot I was forced to boot into console mode. Tried the nvidia driver but booted into a black screen.

I told her to either stay on the 13" or change over to Peppermint ;)

10min later the thinkpad is running PM9 flawlessly :D
It works perfectly with both nouveau or nvidia.

So, now we have a new Peppermint user ;)

EDIT:
Just in case...

Thx!
As far as I'm concerned, I've converted 8 laptops to Peppermint ;)
I know it's not much, but one step at the time :D
...and 4 of those are school kids that use Peppermint on a daily basis for school assignments. My daughter uses office365 regularly, so I bet she will be using the ICE SSB's already in place.
Now my youngest daughter will get the hp laptop, so soon, maybe we will have a 6 year old Peppermint user :D

Taking over the world stepwise 8)

EDIT: Oh, by the way... she (the older one) told me she doesn't like windows :D

Ah yes, another convert. Excellent work. :D That's a really nice looking computer, too.

Personally, I never took to Bodhi. Though, a big part of that is the Enlightenment desktop. To me, it's not that enlightened.

Well, since Microsoft used to think there was one, (the jury is still out on whether or not that's still true) one can see where that line of thinking comes from. Nowadays, they're too busy trying to battle Apple in the tablet game (good luck there) to bother with free desktop operating systems. ;)
