Ubuntu Package Updates
« on: July 23, 2018, 03:21:27 pm »
Do Peppermint and other derivatives of Ubuntu keep an eye on the updates that are provided by Canonical? I had the impression that Mint and Peppermint had less stability issues than Xubuntu.

Hi Fritz74,

What stability issues are you experiencing ?

Xubuntu has been rock solid for me since Beta 1 18.04

Just to be fair: It was only one issue two years ago with Xubuntu 16.04. Suddenly the volume changed by itself. I never found out why. As I NEVER had any issues with Mint Xfce or Peppermint, I probably got the premature impression that they are more stable than Xubuntu.

And today, when I was looking at sources.list, I was wondering if there are further checks of updates by derivative distributions. If not, the stability of everything based on Ubuntu would be the same, wouldn't it?

Ubuntu-based distros do rely on the upstream Ubuntu and Debian repos but each one is a combination of different packages so no two are going to behave exactly the same in practice.

Yes, Peppermint has the Ubuntu repositories active by default, so anything that's installed that gets an update pushed through by Canonical gets updated in Peppermint as well.
