Yes, quite weird. I am installing Windows again and putting Peppermint on an external SSD. I guess that would't create such u fuzz on the internal SSD.
I just wonder, weather I have to choose through the boot selection at each time  the SSD where to boot from. In other words that in that case the bootloader is on the external  and not on the internal SSD. Is that correct, or maybe better to avoid again those problems. When Windows is running again, I will start Peppermint live and put all that input, that you suggested, in the Terminal and let you know the ouput. And I wish the UK football-team good luck tonight ... So, I too, will take it easy tonight. And again, thanks a lot ...

Well, it is a HP ZBook 15 G2 - i7 - 32GB Ram. Th internal SSD 850 EVO 250 GB . It had a 512 MB Efi System Partition. I changed it for another  one: SanDisk 256 GB - GUID Partition table on which I installed Windows 10 prof. The output with SanDisk SSD::

My idea is to put Peppermint on an external Samsung SSD 840 PRO - 128 GB and need some help to avoid further problems ...

Have you messed with this yet ?

It seems your UEFI BIOS is for some reason remembering a LOT of old boot entries .. and they're all pointing to the wrong place :-\

The BIOS thinks the Windows bootloader is at
Code: [Select]
35924e3e-fe73-4be0-99d4-4b146d4bcd99
which is correct, but it also thinks (quite a few times) that the Ubuntu/Peppermint bootloader is at
Code: [Select]
dee76e38-82d2-4452-bf66-a91d5592edcc
which doesn't actually exists.

Was Windows booting properly, when you posted the above output ?

In the meantime I have been rebooting Windows quite a few times without any problems. And I am looking very much forward to be able to work with Peppermint on this machine. So, any help to get Peppermint 9 on external SSD, without creating problems with the Windows UEFI booting on the internal SSD, would be very much apprecitated. I have had so many problems the last few days by trying to have it work, but I won't give up, there is always light by the end of the tunnel ...

Okay, considering I can find no way to have efibootmgr delete more than one entry at a time, you're going to have to run a super long list of commands here to get rid of the broken entries .. then we'll add two working entries for Peppermint.
(then after you give me the output from a couple of commands, we can set Peppermint as the default first boot entry)

Before you get to the commands below to delete the broken entries .. make 100% SURE you DO NOT delete entries 0000, 0001, 0002, 0003, 0004, and 0005

So open a terminal and run these commands in sequence

Okay, I bet that lot kept you busy for a while.

Okay now you're done deleting all the broken entries, run:
Code: [Select]
sudo efibootmgr -c -g -d /dev/sda -p 2 -L ubuntu -l "\EFI\ubuntu\shimx64.efi"
then
Code: [Select]
sudo efibootmgr -c -g -d /dev/sda -p 2 -L peppermint -l "\EFI\ubuntu\shimx64.efi"
now post the output from:
Code: [Select]
sudo efibootmgr -v
and
Code: [Select]
sudo fdisk -l
and
Code: [Select]
sudo blkid
again

Thank you ever so much for all the work you are doing for me.  The light at the end of the tunnel is now coming quite close, I guess ...
However, I have to leave my home for traveling for about a week and very happy to be able to start giving all those commands to the terminal, as soon as I  am back home. So, in about a week I am coming back to you.

Hi PCNetSpec, I'm wondering if this is what's going on with so many people, my self included, trying to install Peppermint along side Windows 10?   :-\
What was I thinking?

Only way we can tell alynur is to have your output from
Code: [Select]
efibootmgr -v
and
Code: [Select]
sudo fdisk -l
and
Code: [Select]
sudo blkid
but this is an active support topic, so please start a new topic until this one is solved ;)

Personally I think this is a one off BIOS bug, but at this point who knows  ???

I already threw in the towel with this problem and installed erasing the disc. I was just thinking about people like ironduke that had a similar sounding problem.
What was I thinking?

I have dual booted Peppermint 9 to my windows 10 today, I did  exactly the same as the other day but today it allowed me to load Peppermint OS alongside Windows 10,  :-\
