Libre Office and Skype Not Installed
« on: July 24, 2014, 01:34:56 pm »
Hi!

I thought I was doing so well! Followed the excellent tutorial on installing Peppermint 4 on my old AA1 ZG5 and all was well until I started to do the "Install the extra software parts 1 and 2" and "Fixing mic on Skype"

Essentially this command fails

sudo apt-get install firefox vlc libreoffice-calc libreoffice-writer thunderbird skype mtpfs cifs-utils smbclient apt-xapian-index && sudo update-apt-xapian-index

None of those programs installs.

I get this...

sudo apt-get install firefox vlc libreoffice-calc libreoffice-writer thunderbird skype mtpfs cifs-utils smbclient apt-xapian-index && sudo update-apt-xapian-index
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Package cifs-utils is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source

E: Unable to locate package libreoffice-calc
E: Unable to locate package libreoffice-writer
E: Package 'cifs-utils' has no installation candidate

Now, I can live without skype, but I would like Firefox and I desperately need Libre office or open Office as I do a lot of writing.

I know I am none too hot at linux, and would appreciate any help

Ubuntu have discontinued the software repositories for 13.04 (which Peppermint 4 was based on) so you'll have to install Peppermint 5 instead.

I have installed peppermint5, but I have the same problem. It looks like I'm missing many repositories
I have checked etc/apt/sources.list  and here is its content:
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/peppermintos/release/ubuntu raring main
#deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/peppermintos/release/ubuntu raring main
Where can I complete the source list and how. thank you Paul

How have you ended up with that .. Peppermint 5 doesn't use the "raring" sources.

Did you somehow attempt to "upgrade" Peppermint 4 .. rather than doing a fresh install ?

That will NOT work, and will result in a lot of packages missing.

You can generate a sources.list file for "trusty" from here .. but he aware if you're still running Peppermint 4 a list of sources for "trusty" will break your system.

I'm currently running peppermint 5 and installed libre office as i need it for school
and everything works fine. I have no idea about skype as i have never skyped in my life
and honestly don't plan on it. But i would say try a fresh install and than try to install libre office
and see how it goes.
