I'm reading that Acer fixed the overheating issue in a BIOS update.

Bad news is you'll probably need to install Windows to apply the BIOS update.

Which BIOS vversion are you running, and what's the FULL model number ?

BTW, if you decide to update the BIOS, it's entirely AT YOUR OWN RISK
(get it wrong, or flash the wrong BIOS binary and you'll turn your PC into a doorstop)

OK, this is not just a Linux problem, seems more like a design flaw as that laptop is known to overheat in Windows too. I'm reading a lot of people saying that opening up the sealed off air vents underneath helps .. see last response here:
http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/59360-35-acer-aspire-5536-extreme-heat-issues
and
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1854391

And that a BIOS update helps .. the latest BIOS appears to be 1.11 (dated 2009/11/19)

I won't actually "advise" these as there's risk involved .. it's up to you.

ok thank you,i went to power manager and it was not turned on,when i clicked to turn it on i heard a noise so maybe that will help a little also i should get my laptop cooler with 5 fans tomorrow and maybe again that might drop the temp down enough so the laptop does not shutdown.

I would also look above @pcnetspecs post and open up those sealed air vents as well, that will your 5 fan cooler blowing into the open vents will drop the temp down for you...   ;)

According to the guy in the post that opened his vents up with a knife he achieved and 27C drop in his overall temperature, he said his temp was 94C before and after was 67C, and I am sure with the fan pad under that blowing into the vent, you can achieve an even greater drop in temperature...   ;)
