How long has that been possible in PCManFM ? .. I could have sworn it wasn't  :-\
I actually don't know when it was implemented, perhaps around the same time tabbed file windows was introduced.

Seriously I could have sworn pcmanfm couldn't do that .. or maybe I'm just mixing it up with creating "launchers", and have been making life hard for myself  ::)
