Resetting of monitor settings (SOLVED)
« on: June 15, 2018, 02:12:16 am »
Yesterday evening I changed to a widescreen monitor (Samsung Syncmaster 2232BW).
I used to have a 4:3 monitor.
It worked fine, yesterday.
This morning, after logging in to Peppermint, the monitor goes to sleep, or turns off.
I can't see anything now.
Is there a way to reset the monitor settings in Peppermint, from the boot DVD ?

Hi  _HG_,

Having you tried setting nomodeset at boot up.

When you get to the grub menu - hit the "Tab" key

You'll then see some white writing at the bottom of screen that ends with:-

quiet splash --

Instead make it end with:-

quiet splash nomodeset --

then hit enter to continue booting. F10 may also work to continue booting

Does this allow you to see the desktop so you can adjust your settings

By editing the line in  /etc/default/grub  to:  GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="nomodeset"
I managed to make the old monitor work again (the 4:3 ratio Samsung SyncMaster 720N).
But still the new wide screen Samsung SyncMaster 2232BW turns off after approx. a second.

Some googling turns out that a common issue with these SyncMaster 2232 monitors
are bad capacitors, so I will check them also.
So, this particular problem I have is then only partly Peppermint and probably mostly the monitor itself.

This turn out being a hardware (monitor) failure.
Consider it solved.

Hi _HG_,

It would be very nice and polite if you could go to your first message in this thread, click on the button named Modify (in the upper right corner) and then add (SOLVED) at the end of the Subject: line.

Thanks in advance,
