So i have 2 portable drives my 2nd one a oygen shadow will read on linux and allow me to drag the files off of it (which is also great) but will not allow me to add new files on to it.
Does anyone know why?

At a guess I'd say it's probably got some kind of file system corruption, so the system flags it as "dirty" and remounts it read-only (so further damage can't be caused).

WIth the drive plugged in, and so you can access it in file manager.

What's the output from:
Code: [Select]
mount

The problem is the journalled hfs+ file system.

We can force it into read-write from the command line, but it's never going to be automagic.

Do you still have acccess to a Mac with an OS before 10.9 ? .. if so we can turn off journalling, then it will mount read-write.

If not, and there's not too much on it .. again you'd need to move the stuff to another drive .. format the drive as say NTFS .. copy the stuff back
