Samba open ports
« on: June 10, 2018, 09:26:47 am »
I have open ports that I believe are related to Samba. I would like to close these permanantly!

Last time I tried I could no longer use nmap.

I do have my firewall running and this blocks  an nmap scan from another computer on my network.

These are the ports in question if anyone could help?

139/tcp open  netbios-ssn
445/tcp open  microsoft-ds

Have you tried simply uninstalling samba ?

Unfortunately I am a network engineer. The company whom I work for is BYOD.

I need Samba there if its required.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding but to me you seem to be asking for two mutually exclusive things

a) you want to permanently close the smb ports
and
b) you still want samba to work

Am I missing what your goals are here ?

My english is not very good.

I have solved it.

I use

sudo service smbd stop

then I can start again when needed t work. Or on reboot.

Ah right, you meant "temporarily" not "permanently" .. now it makes sense :)

Glad you figured it out, and thanks for posting your solution :)
