How do i change the user account at log in? (SOLVED)
« on: July 22, 2014, 03:23:49 pm »
Hi i installed peppermint os only a few days ago. I have made 2 different user accounts one for school work and one for every day use/music recording  the one for school i set up first (my original user) but i would like at log in when i reboot it to go right to my new user (the everday use one) how do i go about doing that?  I can't figure it out.  any help greatly appreciated thanks!

go into the user account settings, and turn off the automatic login on the account it is auto logging into now, and on the account you want it to log in as, set that one up as an auto login...

Are you saying you want to autologin one account ?

Or are you saying - At the login screen you want the second account to be the one that's selected by default ?

ok so what happens when i reboot it automatically just goes with out password right to my old user account.
What i want to happen is (with no password) to right to my new user account with out password (if that makes sense).

I don't see anywhere that says 'auto login' thats the issue.

Run:
Code: [Select]
sudo gedit /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf

Change the line

autologin-user=old-username

to

autologin-user=new-username

SAVE the file.

Reboot to test

Ovbiously use your username not new-username ;)

CTRL + ALT +T will give you a terminal box, at that point follow the commands up top that pcnetspec gave you....   ;)
when you copy and paste the code he gave you into terminal and hit enter it will ask for your password, enter your pword and hit enter and gedit will open up your lightdm.conf file and allow you to edit and save it as he instructed above....   :)

thanks ok i got that now heres the other problem i changed the user actually of the old one to iAMesper
the new one is Justin (thats my name) which used to be the name of the old one. But it says 'Justin" as the current
login. So not sure why it's doing that. Is there a way to just not have it autologin? or is there a way where i can
delete the old user even will that make it go right to this new one?

@ iamesperambient

If you'd prefer it not to autologin a user at all, and prompt you for which user to login as each time .. just ask.
