Peppermint 8 R-2 64bit: Screenlock not working [SOLVED]
« on: May 14, 2018, 10:06:44 am »
Hello,

I am new to Peppermint and have encountered a rather annoying problem: I have two screenlock options and neither is working. One way to lock the screen is to click on the log out button and select the option of 'Lock Screen' and the other is to add a physical screen lock button to the panel as illusrated by this screenshot (screen lock button is in the bottom-right corner):

Anyone here who knows a solution to this issue?

ADDITION: ctrl+alt+L does not work either.

Thanks in advance,

Does it lock if you execute i3lock from your terminal?

It works with i3lock; any idea why the screenlock button are not working?

I don't understand the lxlock reference with question mark.

If you run
Code: [Select]
lxlock
in the terminal, does i3lock start ?

If not, what's the contents of
Code: [Select]
xed /usr/bin/lxlock

If I type lxlock, it says:

ThinkPad-T61 ~ $ lxlock
/usr/lib/i3lock-fancy/i3lock-fancy: line 9: convert: command not found
/usr/lib/i3lock-fancy/i3lock-fancy: line 62: convert: command not found

Try
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get install imagemagick
then see if the lockscreen functions work

I deleted Imagemagick yesterday; it acts as my default photo viewing app and it is empahtically awful at this task.

Do I need Imagemagick?

For i3lock YES .. for its "convert"

Why not just set something else as the default image viewer ?

[EDIT]

Another option would be to use lightlocker as the default lockscreen:
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get install light-locker light-locker-settings

I am a very recent refugee from Windows 7 land; hence my knowledge of things Linux is still rudimentary.

Reinstalling Imageshack solved the issue and I changed the default photo viewer.

Just to make sure: do I need the i3clock? I installed it after the other contributor asked me to perform a test with it.

You already have i3lock by default in Peppermint

yes i3lock needs to be installed for the default screenlock .. it is not required if you switch to lightlocker.

i3 lock looks nicer than lightlocker, so I will stick with it. The problem is solved; a big thumb up to both of you for your input.
