SD Card Reader won't recognize card
« on: May 09, 2018, 03:43:36 pm »
  :-\
I'm a newby to linux - peppermintOS 8, on a Compaq nc8230 :o Really old machine!

Installed and been having a great experience.

Only had two issues one which I corrected with the display.

The one I need your help with is the built-in SD card reader -

SD Host controller      : Texas Instruments PCI6411/6421/6611/6621/7411/7421/7611/7621 Secure Digital Controller

I put in the SD card and nothing happens.
I checked with the fdisk command

info
electro@electro-HP ~ $ sudo fdisk -l
[sudo] password for electro:
Disk /dev/sda: 55.9 GiB, 60011642880 bytes, 117210240 sectors

Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes

I also did sudo apt-get install --reinstall udisks2, and restarted but it didn't work.

Hi electro and welcome to the forum  ;)

When you insert the sd card does it appear in nemo?

Another question: did you remove the sd card from the reader BEFORE reinstalling udisks2?  If not, do that, reboot and hope for the best.

Can you also take the card out

wait a few seconds

reinsert the card

then post the output from:
Code: [Select]
dmesg | tail -n 40

Hi electro, how old is really old? My machine is cerca 2006 and wouldn't read sd cards, found out thru this forum that the really old stuff isn't supported. I have since bought and installed a new card reader and it works great.
What was I thinking?

Hi aluynur.  What did you get, if you don't mind sharing?

Hi aluynur.  What did you get, if you don't mind sharing?

Hi mac, EZDIY Front Panel for 3.5 inch Bay with Card Reader and one USB 3.0 port. The USB 3.0 port cable plugs into a USB 3.0 slot in the rear panel of the mother board, only part of this I wasn't real happy about, but it works.  I tried to connect it to a pcie slot on the motherboard by using a pcie adaptor with a USB recepticle, but every time I plugged a memory stick in, it would shut off my monitor display output, no idea why.
What was I thinking?
