This is an FYI in case someone finds it useful. I was able to install Peppermint 8 Respin-2 on a 2013 HP Pavilion Chromebook (Butterfly) - Model 14-c050nr - that has reached EOL.

I followed these instructions. See the first comment (by me) at the bottom of that page for a little extra info.

Specs of this Chromebook.

Thanks, guys!

As is not unusual for a laptop after a new OS installaton the touchpad doesn't work. Simply checking (or unchecking) the boxes in Touchpad options of the Control Center doesn't fix it.

Since this HP Chromebook belongs to a friend I'll let him register and start a new thread for advice on how to fix that issue, unless it is good form to discuss it in this thread.

The (now) Peppermintbook responds fine to a USB mouse and that provides better control than the touchpad so it really isn't a big deal.

It's probably fixable .. just that it's using something other that a synaptics touchpad.

Though normally I'd say start a new topic, as this is a chromebook it might be a good idea for him to carry on in this topic .. to keep the info in one place.
