Peppermint 5 resurrects old desktop (again)
« on: July 20, 2014, 02:49:57 pm »
Kept an old Dell Dimension E521 (1GB RAM, 150GB HDD) after upgrading to a bigger, faster desktop. I put P3 on the system and everything worked fine, except once I moved the system to a separate "guest house" I could no longer access the wifi signal. To be fair, the signal was now going through two concrete walls and another 50 feet or so. So the desktop stayed there, pretty much doing nothing.

When P5 came out, I brought the desktop back into the house, installed P5 and a bunch of other programs, intending to use the system as a standalone writing platform. I'd hoped that the wifi signal would catch, but was not keeping my hopes up.

Well, I'm typing this now on that system. I'm getting a signal of 45-55% strength, and that's perfectly acceptable.

Below is the output of ixni-F. Thanks to the Peppermint team for bringing this system back to life, even further than I had hoped!
