Hi.

This is really useful information, however, when I run the commands I get the following error.  Am I doing something stupid? (wouldnt be the first time!!)

Thanks.

Code: [Select]
sudo dkms install -m 8812au -v 4.2.2

Hi.

You were right.  Thank you.

Installed ok.  Still not finding the USB dongle.

Am thinking possibly as its USB3 and my box only has USB2.

Have tried it on other distros and they dont recognise it either. Works ok on Windoze.

First time I have been unable to install something in years.  Frustrating!

Thanks again.

Gordon

It's unlikely anything to do with USB3 .. with the USB wireless adapter plugged in, what's the output from:
Code: [Select]
lsusb
and
Code: [Select]
sudo lshw -C network
and
Code: [Select]
rfkill list
and
Code: [Select]
iwconfig

It looks like you're trying to install the wrong driver for that adapter.

Your adapter is based on the Realtek RTL8812BU chipset, not the RTL8812AU chipset .. I'll see what I can find

Okay, it looks like you require the 8822bu driver (which contains the IDvendor:IDproduct string for your adapter .. 0bda:b812)

With an active internet connection, open a terminal and run these commands in sequence:-
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get install git dkms
then
Code: [Select]
mkdir ~/rtl8822
then
Code: [Select]
cd ~/rtl8822
then
Code: [Select]
git clone https://github.com/jeremyb31/rtl8822bu.git
then
Code: [Select]
sudo dkms add ./rtl8822bu
then
Code: [Select]
sudo dkms install 8822bu/1.1
then
Code: [Select]
sudo modprobe 8822bu
did wireless spring to life ?

If so, does it survive a reboot ?

HI ggsinclair, how’s it going :)?  For future reference, could you please remember to encapsulate all terminal outputs with the Insert, Code # function.  For extra long outputs, please use the Spoiler, Sp function.  If you’re a Chromium Browser and/or a Google Chrome user, please don't combine these functions.  For some reason they don’t work well together with these browsers.  Only use one or the other  ;).  These forum functions preserve the original format of the output.  This makes it easier for future visitors to relate to their own issues.  These functions are found in the forum editor, above the,  :-[ Embarrassed and  the :'( Cry emoticon respectively.  Use the Preview button to check how it'll look in the forum.  This time, I've done it for you - many thanks  ;).
Backup! Backup! Backup! If you're missing any of these -  you ain't Backed Up!
