Menu, Panel and app fonts are too small
« on: April 10, 2018, 12:40:25 am »
Dear Peppermint OS Friends,

I just installed Peppermint OS and I have a hard time using it as the writing on the Menu, in Software Center, on Apps in general are too small by far.

It is absolute user unfriendly on my 22" screen.

I changed the fonts at look and feel, but it seems to have very little effect and for sure not on and at the applications mentioned before.

In Calculate and any other XFCE based Distro I can use Appearance to change these fonts successful, but it is not available in Peppermint :-(

Mayday Mayday ;-)) need help

Dirk

Hi Dirk.

Are you able to provide the output from running
Code: [Select]
inxi -Fz
in a terminal window please.

This is another quirk of the proprietary nvidia drivers.

Run:
Code: [Select]
xed ~/.Xresources
when a BLANK file opens, add this line
Code: [Select]
Xft.dpi: 96
SAVE the file.

Now log off and on again.

Alternatively you could add the line:-
Code: [Select]
	Option "DPI" "96 x 96"
to the "Device" section in your xorg.conf file .. but because of the weird way the nvidia drivers work in Optimus setups, that would be lost if you ever changed to the Intel profile, then back to the Nvidia profile.

So I'd recommend the first solution.

Thank you PCNetSpec, your code did the trick, it is now much more user friendly and readable.

Even though, I am not a fan of dark themes.

zebedeeboss, than you too for your help ;-))

You're most welcome :)

Quite why nvidia choose to change the font scaling with their proprietary drivers, I don't know, but I'm going to look into creating a GUI util to add to the tweaks section of the Settings Panel for setting X Font Scaling.

Not a fan of dark themes .. just change it ;)

If we went with a light theme, 50% of people would be upset, same goes for a dark theme .. like every other distro all we can do is make a choice for the default, but make it as easy as possible to change :)

BTW, when you're happy one of your topics contains a working solution, can you please remember to mark the topic (SOLVED) .. you can do this be editing the FIRST posting in your topic and changing:-

Subject: Menu, Panel and app fonts are too small (SOLVED)

Thanks in advance :)
