Brother Printer ( VinDSL ) ( SOLVED )
« on: April 06, 2018, 08:32:24 pm »
@ VinDSL,

Below is a post that you helped me with back in Sept. on getting my son's
Brother HL-L2315dw printer to work.

Well, I just bought the same printer for myself and I had saved those drivers
for the Dell E310dw and so I installed them and the printer works ok now
with those drivers just like it did for my son.

But my question for you, however, is whether on not you ever got the
printer's wireless connected to your router ?

I've tried for a couple of hours using the online users manual, but it is just
so confusing (at least for me). The printers very limited lcd display just does
not seem to correlate with what the online menu says it should indicate.

Any hints would be greatly appreciated,
Thank you, and thank you for helping me before.

That printer looks very similar to my Dell E310dw (rebadged Brother Brother HL-L2300D). I wouldn't be surprised if it used the same Linux drivers.

Here's how I got my Dell E310dw working on Peppermint:  https://goo.gl/GjkKg1 (last last post in the thread is mine)

Might want to give that a whirl...   ;)

Well, I reinstalled the 2 .deb driver files using the installer, no change.
When trying to print, it says 'waiting for printer to be available'.

HOWEVER, I decided to try the drivers for the Dell E310dw that you mentioned above.
AND, they worked !!!

So, evidently the drivers for Brother model HL-L2315DW on their website are the wrong drivers,
or at least they didn't work in this instance, whereas the drivers for the Dell E310dw did work
for the HL-L2315DW.

I thank you very much; I doubt that I would ever have gotten the printer to work without your input.

But my question for you, however, is whether on not you ever got the printer's wireless connected to your router ?

I tried to make a direct wireless connection a couple of times, for shiggles, but it always timed out before I found the right combination of clicking this n' that button, so I gave up on the idea.

I connect to the printers and print server on my LAN via WiFi anyway, so it really doesn't matter, and I never pursued it.

I have it setup as a network printer. It's plugged into a router and has it's own dedicated IP addy on my LAN, and that's all that's necessary for wired/wireless connections.

Well, I finally got the wireless working by using the CD that came with the printer
on a Windows 7 machine.

By the way, Brother now has the correct Linux driver for this printer on their website.
