stalled at the Grub screen (SOLVED)
« on: March 26, 2018, 11:48:22 am »
Hi All,
I had a machine running Pep 7 and dual booting with Pep 8.
I deleted the Pep 8 and now when I try to boot the computer stops at a screen that says
GNU GRUB version 2.02~beta2-36ubuntu3.17
Minimal BASH-like line editing is supported. For the first word, TAB lists possible command completions. Anywhere else TAB list possible device or file completions.
Can anyone help me get my machine to boot again ??
If necessary I will wipe the machine and re-install Pep 7

take care
Don W

You probably had PM8 in control of Grub.
Can you boot PM7 in recovery mode?
If you can do that a simple
Code: [Select]
sudo update-grub
after booting should solve the problem.

Hi donwatson,

You could also try https://www.supergrubdisk.org/ and make a live USB to try and search for a copy of P7 Grub.  Once you have it running you can then do as Pin said  :)

Good Luck

It would be nice if you wrote down your solution here, or link to the thread in linux.co.uk, so in the future other users with a similar problem can find the solution.
Cheers

It was solved on the other forum I administer by reinstalling GRUB (efi mode):

I wasn't aware of this topic at the time.
