Problems booting P8 on eee 1000H [Solved]
« on: March 10, 2018, 09:15:55 am »
Hi,

I am running into problems installing P8.

The demo runs fine. But after installing the machine boots into a screen with snow.

Any ideas for patching?

With best regards,

Have a look at this thread, https://forum.peppermintos.com/index.php?topic=6448.0
and this bug report, https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1724639

I don't have access to my laptop right now but, do comeback if you have issues regarding what/how to go from here.

Thank you! The first link goes into the right direction.

I haven't figured out yet, how to switch to an older kernel (in the terminal), the kernels 4.13.0.36- generic and 4.13.0.32- generic do not work.

Actually, you don't have to install an older kernel. Boot in recovery mode, find this line
Code: [Select]
#GRUB_TERMINAL="console"
in /etc/default/grub and make it read
Code: [Select]
GRUB_TERMINAL="console"
That should do it, if not take the other option, i.e. GRUB_GFXPAYLOAD_LINUX=text
Have a second look at those two links for this one. I'm writing this on my phone and it's not as easy as in front of my laptop.

EDIT: These other posts maybe useful as well,

After making that change and saving it, don't forget to run:
Code: [Select]
sudo update-grub
