WIreless Dongle [Resolved]
« on: March 06, 2018, 12:18:19 am »
So the other day a friend of mine bought a Wireless US Adapter/Dongle for his Desktop computer. It is running Windows 10 and all is working well.
Lately I was thinking about getting one for my laptop the ASUS X205t

Back Story
I got the red one few years back... has that peppermint feel too it.....know what I mean  ;)

Anyway this laptop is a not very Linux friendly but I got peppermint working on it and  all has been well,
I use it in stationary scenario so I have a Wired Network USB dongle I use while browsing the network,
It does the job.

Really there are only two things that this Laptop will just not work with Linux that is Sound and Wireless.
The sound is point blank not supported. The Debian Wiki's straight up say that.
The wireless...hmmmm,  there are some work arounds but either they did not work or the thing would just freeze all the time.
Looked around the Ubuntu forums, for 16.04 and poked around a bit on the Debian Wiki
And sort of just left it at that.

End of Story------

So I tried his, adapter it is this product out here in Japan
エレコム  Wifi product

Peppermint did not recognize it at all.
My question really is do any of you guys have any recommendations for a Wifi USB Adapter that will work well with Peppermint?
 --Thanks!

Hi grafiksinc,

A quick search of the forum (tip: never underestimate the fundus of information in our forum, all easily accessed with the Search button  ;) ) revealed this post that might get you started. I did not search the old forum, but I believe that there you will find another possible dongle that PCNetSpec uses/used, worked OOTB, was cheap and very small.

Good luck, and let us know if you find one (and specs for it) so that others might also be helped.

Regards,

Do you want to see f we can get the one you have working ?

If so, plug it in and post the output from:
Code: [Select]
lsusb
and
Code: [Select]
sudo lshw -c network
If I'm right it's going to have an rtl8812au chipset .. but just a guess at the moment.
