Actually, that's one of the first things that drew me to Peppermint OS - its speed on a lowly USB stick.

After doing a lot of testing (around 2010) I discovered that Lubuntu booted and ran the fastest of any OS, on a USB stick.

Then, in typical Lubuntu fashion, they destroyed the speed on the next upgrade by adding bloat.

So, I went looking for a suitable Lubuntu fork, and found Peppermint OS.

Peppermint OS is still the king of USB installs, as the vid producer discovered  8)

Nice :) .. we seem to get a lot of "if it weren't for Ubuntu MATE..."

As he points out we're not really in competition with them so I can live with that :)

Which is pretty funny, because the last distro I used prior to Peppermint was Ubuntu MATE 15.10. I have no gripe with that project, it worked as well as I would expect. (some early issues, but it was practically beta that early in time)
What I don't like is their update model. Or any buntu-ending distro for that matter.
Peppermint's ethics are closer in sync to Mint (xfce) imo, albeit the HWE kernel. Brownie points for the exclusion of the archaic damn Thunar/PCManFM file manager   8)
