How do i update flash?
« on: February 04, 2018, 01:39:36 am »
I mainly use firefox and certain flash sites crash my browser because my plugin isnt updated.  I use chromium for those sites but still says my flash is out dated, update or run as is.

I usually got them in my normal updates, but nothing in a week.

Firefox 58.01 64, think it started at 58.

On pep 8 64 bit, but same thing in living room that has 7

Thanks

It seems like Adobe haven't updated the adobe-flashplugin package yet .. so to get flash to work in Peppermint 8 for both Firefox and Chromium....

Run the following commands in sequence
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get remove --purge adobe-flash-properties-gtk adobe-flashplugin
then
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get install flashplugin-installer pepperflashplugin-nonfree
then close ALL web browser instances, including SSB's (until there are none open), then reopen to test

ok...im confused...in my slimjet browser it says im running..."You have version 28,0,0,161 installed...in the chromium browser it says..."you have version 28.0.0.137 installed"...i have followed the previous posted instructions after purging the gtk flash plugin...why is it then that the adobe site says the 137 version is the current one yet my slimjet chromium based browser is running a newer 161 thats not even listed as the current one by adobe...and how would i get the chromium browser to recognize the newest flash?...totally confused with this conundrum...DAMIEN

Version 17.0.8.0 (based on Chromium 63.0.3239.52) (Official Build) (64-bit)...this is my slimjet version which is up to date

Version 64.0.3282.119 (Official Build) Built on Ubuntu , running on Peppermint 8 (64-bit)...this is my chromium browser which is up to date...note that the chromium browser build version is more up to date than the slimjet yet is running (in my opinion) an outdated flash

ok...i dunno either ..i just ran it again...here is what it says...copy and paste..."You have version 28,0,0,161 installed"...i hesitate to run what you say...not because i dont trust you but...but ...but...it makes no sense of the results i have verses what is said is current version...137... versus what you have as current BETA version...152...the info you have...????????...im sucking my thumb in wonder....dont know what ive got here....?????....until we both have a solid answer...forgive me if i dont run what you asked in the meanwhile...i ran the third one...this is what i got...
damien@damien ~ $ locate libpepflashplayer.so
/home/damien/.config/slimjet/PepperFlash/28.0.0.161/libpepflashplayer.so
/opt/slimjet/PepperFlash/libpepflashplayer.so
/usr/lib/pepperflashplugin-nonfree/libpepflashplayer.so
/var/cache/pepperflashplugin-nonfree/libpepflashplayer.so
damien@damien ~ $
...by the way...i know i may be running things in an unorthodox way of what is in norms of the peppermint operating systems...but i dont think i should be in any real error either...if you could really see how my computers ive set up with peppermint actually run...i think you would be in awe...everything and i mean everything runs faster than you can blink an eye...truly its really faster than an eye blink...im totally astounded myself at how im able to make peppermint sit up, bark, meow, or otherwise...im really good with Linux Mint...but i cant believe the results ive been able to achieve with peppermint...literally i only have to think before i click and it is there instantaneously...really super quick...did i make modifications?...yea i did...can i tell ya exactly what i did?...no not really because every modification started, but no means ended with initial install...and by the way...adobe flash is not showing as a beta version but as a solid release version...DAMIEN

ps...does it help to know that even though retired...etc...that i still do some sort of IT work for US military intelligence, with helping their IT dept in missile tech etc. though not very major?...and as a side line...(maybe because im just a cocky s.o.b), i invite anyone to try to break my systems...lol...lol...by the way...has not happened yet...lol...DAMIEN

Just out of interest, can you post the output from:
Code: [Select]
md5sum /home/damien/.config/slimjet/PepperFlash/28.0.0.161/libpepflashplayer.so
and
Code: [Select]
md5sum /opt/slimjet/PepperFlash/libpepflashplayer.so

Hmm, seems Slimjet are distributing pepperflash as part of their package, and using Google Chrome's mechanism for downloading pepperflash updates on the fly.

So Slimjet is more akin to Google Chrome than Chromium (and probably why it's not open source) .. it must also mean they have a licensing agreement with both Adobe and Google in place .. which REALLY surprises me as you don't get asked to agree to an EULA to download and use it (which you do with Chrome and is part of the agreement between Adobe and Google .. see the Chrome EULA).

In any case .. As I understand it Google create pepperflash (a PPAPI wrapped version of Adobe flashplayer) under license from Adobe .. they then no doubt pass it back upstream for release by Adobe. On the 3rd of Feb 2018 Google Chrome got pepperflash 28.0.0.161, and Slimjet would have too because they're using the Chrome mechanism .. I'd expect this to shortly get pushed back upstream to Adobe who'll release it on their website, when that happens it'll be update-able in pepperflashplugin-nonfree.

Did that make sense ?

Thanks, it worked for Chromium but Firefox wasnt working and crashing.

Got a flash update today and firefox still isnt working for espn radio podcasts and other stuff.

http://www.espn.com/espnradio/play?id=22286065

This one sends me to a page that sends an error report.  Others just show up as blank but no crash.

No issues or "outdated plugin msg" in chromium

Thanks

hi guys...this espn caught my interest and though i dont use firefox, i do use slimjet and chromium, and as PCNetSpec and i both know, my slimjet is the "161" version of flash and the chromium browser is "137"...both are the most up to date for its browser version...however, i get this message from the espn player in both browsers

"You do not have the correct Flash plugin installed. Get Flash Now"

needless to say, i always ignore the flash warnings because i know better...and yes the espn player works for me no problem in both browsers...DAMIEN
