kernel error in drm_kms_helper, flip_done timed out
« on: February 03, 2018, 06:47:28 pm »
I recently acquired another Dell laptop... a Latitude d830 and was having issues with extremely long boot times and error messages regarding flip_done timed out, etc.  I found a solution online from several others who were having similar issues, by adding video=SVIDEO-1:d to the boot parameter.  This is what I did... I went to terminal and entered the following...

Code: [Select]
gksudo gedit /etc/default/grub
Then I edited the following command line by changing...

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash"
into:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash video=SVIDEO-1:d"

After editing the boot parameter I saved the file and closed it and then did the following terminal command...
Code: [Select]
update-grub
after that I exited the terminal and rebooted the laptop.

This solved my issues!  I now boot up much much faster and with no error messages.  I am a Linux rookie...so what do I know?  All I can say is this helped me and this may help someone else, so I share it for what its worth.

Wishing you the best,
Fred
