Peppermint5 goes to GRUB after install (SOLVED)
« on: July 11, 2014, 06:52:05 am »
Hi.
I installed P5 on a 9gb partition, over P4.
It seemed to be all right, but when the system tried to reboot from the Liveusb to the actual HDD it gave me the GRUB prompt.
What should I do?

As soon as I restore the partitions I'll try again and tell you if this particular boot problem presents itself again :)

Problem Solved.
New installation fixed it.
And I think I now understand the original problem...

My partitions were like:
- sda (whole HDD)
-- sda1 (/)
-- sda2 (/home)

I installed the OS on sda1 and so put the bootloader there... and got the error.
Reading arounf the forums I changed that and fitted the boorloader right in the overall general sda ... and it worked.

Yup, the bootloader goes on the root of the drive (master boot record) not a partition :)

Happy to hear you figured it out.
