I'm not sure this would be simple without adding Qt themeing support .. earlier versions of VLC could be told to use the GTK theme .. they removed this option in recent versions.

I suggest giving GNOME MPV a look. It integrates well with most GTK 3 themes, including Pepirus. Default keybindings sheet: https://www.cheatography.com/someone/cheat-sheets/mpv-media-player/
I initially used Totem and X-Player, but support for stylized/ASS subtitles was kinky at best. VLC was VLC (for better or worse, you be the judge)
You can disable the gnome headerbars as shown below:

You could always try xplayer (it's in the Peppermint 8 repos):
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get install xplayer
it's a Mint X-App, so should pick up the default theming and window decorations properly.

You'll then find it in the menu at:-

Menu > Sound & Video > Media Player

More about it here:

Well I just downloaded the test/demo files big-buck-bunny_trailer.webm and elephants-dream.webm from here:
http://www.webmfiles.org/demo-files/
and xplayer had no problems playing them ;)

xplayer (including dependencies) is only 15.2MB on my system .. so didn't hurt to test.

Not to mention, that even without a media player webm files would open in your web browser.

i did try it just now...sound and video quality ok and it did play the webm format but is quite limited in comparison as to what i use it for...i do some VJing/DJing on the side every once in a while, plus its volume doesnt go past 100%...im using very high powered speakers that can handle full output of VLC...so thanx anyways but looks like ill just keep using VLC in the meanwhile...lol...no major biggie...just was hoping to get my solid black back...DAMIEN

its volume doesnt go past 100%..
Can't you increase the vol level past 100% using Pulse Audio?

already have pulse audio at its max 153%...these are monster speaker systems that really need to crank in very loud environment, hence why VLC has been perfect...just the VLC alone will crank to 200%...lol...DAMIEN
