I would have to say if I'm on the couch with my laptop I use the trackpad.......if I'm at a table then I use the mouse...so I answered 'I sometimes use the mouse"

Hi Vin, I don't even have a mouse

I quit carrying one, with my lappy, years ago - just something else to lug around  ;)

Touchpad only, in fact I don't think I've ever plugged a mouse into this thing.

Hi VinDSL,

Only mouse is used here. I hate touchpads.  >:(

I also only use my laptops either at work or in my home office -- and in both places they are on a desk with sufficient room to use a mouse. I also have wireless mice for all laptops.

The missus only uses a mouse, but then I can't pry her off Windows .. so does that count ?

A pet peeve of mine is that every time Win10 gets an update it re-enables the touchpad and I have to set it to "disabled when a USB mouse is plugged in" for her again >:(

Did you try disabling it in UEFI?  That's what I used to do when I used a laptop and didn't want it activated, I just deactivated it in the BIOS.  Unless Win10 can change your UEFI settings, which really wouldn't surprise me.  ::)

I have a 2x1 Dell laptop. At first I've cared to find a DE that would give the best support to a touchscreen (and the auto-rotation feature). Since it gives more trouble than it's convenient to use, I just disable it. Don't think I'll be looking for this feature for my next laptop.

I rather use the mouse than the touchpad. I only use the touchpad when it's more convenient (or I'm feeling too lazy to plug the mouse).

I've never seen an option to disable a touchpad in a laptop BIOS before, there certainly wasn't one on her previous HP laptop.

BUT...

Now that you mentioned it, I had a look in the Dell BIOS and sure enough there **IS** an option to disable .. chalk up another win for the Dell E series :)

TVM, that'll save me a rather regular annoyance :)

I use the touchpad 90% of the time...but if set up at a table, to do a lot of "serious" computing...I will sometimes use a mouse.

I'm in the sometimes mouse category. I massively prefer the mouse. I carry one (cable retracts in to the mouse for ease of transportation). I also carry a USB optical drive, and a usb3 hub with Ethernet port. The joys of ultrabooks... Although all fit in a small bag and only the laptop needs to go into the server room (normally with the network dongle, but possibly with the usb to console cable).

I can't always be bothered, or have the space to site the mouse comfortably. The trackpad is very handy for working in server rooms/cupboards or somewhere like in bed.

my laptops almost never left the house unless we went on vacation... and I had a lapboard with enough room for a sticky -backed mousepad... also kept the touchpads completely disabled... but with this new Galaxy S8+ cellphone, the laptops have all been donated... #tooslow

Hey VinDSL, since you mentioned laptops, would you mind jiggering my memory and remind us all when your Dell Refurb was purchased? I can't locate that thread... :-\

I use a mouse if i'm sitting on a chair, otherwise i use the trackpad if i'm lying on my bed. The mouse offers much more precision and speed, which is necessary when gaming  :)
