Can't remaximize windows after tiling (SOLVED)
« on: January 10, 2018, 05:49:25 pm »
Running P8 respin; after setting keyboard shortcuts in xfwm4-settings
to tile windows, the windows won't maximize again using the little maximize
square in the upper right of the window.

I have to close the window and open it again; then the maximize square
will work.

What command are you using to tile ?

I'm going into xfwm4-settings under keyboard shortcuts
and using ctrl+left to tile left, ctrl+right to tile right, etc.

Working for me :-\

Can you try setting those keyboard shortcuts in a Guest session .. tile a window .. then check if maximise works ?

If it works in a Guest session it'll point to something in your home folder conflicting.

Just tried it in a guest session; same thing, won't maximize.

OK, now it's getting weirder. With numlock on ( I always keep it on),
I went into xfwm4-settings and set all the keyboard shortcuts for tiling as follows:

alt+4/left, alt+6/right, alt+8/up, alt+2/down,
alt+7/up-left, alt+9/up-right, alt+1/down-left, alt+3/down-right

When I tile to either of the four corners, the maximize works just fine.

When I tile to either side or top or bot, the window won't maximize,
however, if I click the maximize indicator with the RIGHT mouse
button, the window goes to the INTERMEDIATE size and then a click
on the maximize indicator with the LEFT mouse button will then maximize it.

Installed P8 respin on another computer, same problem trying to maximize
window after tiling it.

Also discovered that if I grab the edge of the tiled window and make it just
slightly smaller or larger, then the maximize works.

Well, I finally found out why I was having a problem getting windows
(actually just the Chromium window) to maximized after tiling.

I was always using Chromium as my test window, and it just would not
maximized after I tiled it.

As it turned out, I discovered than any other application window would
maximize just fine after tiling, so I started to think it must be
something to do with the Chromium browser.

So, I tried the Chrome browser, same deal as Chromium; then I tried the
(Chrome based) Vivaldi browser, same deal.

Then I tried Firefox and Opera; no problem with them, they maximized just fine.

Then I discovered that with Chromium and Chrome, if I went into settings and
checked 'Use system title bar and borders', that the 'problem' was solved.
And with Vivaldi, after checking 'Use native window' under appearance, same
thing, the 'problem' went away.

So, what I thought might have been a bug turned out to be a simple setting
in the browsers.

I also want to add to this post that I think that Peppermint is one terrific
OS. I have tried quite a few distros, but I always seem to gravitate back
to Peppermint. Recently I have been using Ubuntu Mate 17.10 and I really
like it, but there's just something about Peppermint that seems to turn
any computer into a rock solid, super configurable, lean, mean, racy machine !

Long live Peppermint OS and kudos to the Peppermint Team !!!

Thanks for the solution arky217, great to hear it's just a Chromium based browser setting and not a Peppermint wide issue .. phew!!
(explains why I couldn't recreate .. I'm a die hard FF user)

and thanks for the kind words :)
