This could be a graphic driver error, is this happening before or after the grub menu ?

I am watching this post to see the outcome, I have had several machines that I installed ubuntu based distros on, and when i shut them down and boot for the first time this happens, where the machine tries to boot but all these lines of code come up on the screen and it never boots again...
I am hoping to see a fix for this problem, what i do to fix it is to install antix mx 16...
I just chalked it up to something with the hardware that don't like ubuntu based distros...
maybe Mark can figure out this problem, I have had it happen with linux mint cinnamon, and mint xfce, and peppermint version 7...

ok
have you tried the nomodeset boot parameter ?

If not follow the instructions here (part1 only at this point)
http://www.dell.com/support/article/uk/en/ukbsdt1/sln306327/manual--nomodeset--kernal-boot-line-option-for-linux-booting?lang=en

post back with the results

Good luck

Whilst I haven't had chance to look into this yet and it's late here so I'm off to bed .. this is definitely an issue with the open source 'nouveau' graphics driver for an nvidia card.

If we can get it to boot at all (maybe by blaclisting nouveau at the kernel boot line, or with emegras suggestion of the nomodeset kernel boot parameter), maybe installing the proprietary 'nvidia' driver will fix the issue.

Just thinking out loud at the moment, I'll see what I can dig up tomorrow.

First check if the nomodeset kernel boot parameter will allow you to boot....

Boot to the Peppermint 8 LiveCD/LiveUSB .. when you get to the screen where it offers you "Try Peppermint" and "Install Peppermint" ..  hit the "Tab" key

You'll then see some white writing at the bottom of screen that ends with

quiet splash --

Use the backspace key to remove quiet splash --

and replace it with nomodeset

then hit enter to continue booting.

Did that allow you to boot ?
