Booting from USB any option is
« on: November 14, 2017, 07:05:55 pm »
I'm trying to install Pepperment 8 x64 on an acer aspire one 1-431 with 2 gb ram, 5 open gb of memory, and a celeron 1.6GHZ processor. I've got the installer on my usb and can get into the options screen, but any option that I choose sends me to a screen with hexes on a some riblike shapes. Then nothing happens. I left it on that screen for a half hour with no change. Is this just how long it takes? or is there something that I am missing?

No it should not take anywhere near that long...

Try this, but if it works DO NOT install Peppermint yet, this is purely a test

Boot to the Peppermint 8 64bit LiveUSB .. when you get to the screen where it offers you "Try Peppermint" and "Install Peppermint" ..  hit the "Tab" key.

You'll then see some white writing at the bottom of screen that ends with

quiet splash --

Use the backspace key to remove quiet splash --

and replace it with edd=off noapic

then hit enter to continue booting.

Did the Live USB boot properly now ?

Okay you must be booting the USB stick in UEFI mode....

Try this, but if it works DO NOT install Peppermint yet, this is purely a test

Boot to the Peppermint 8 64bit LiveUSB .. when you get to the screen where it offers you "Try Peppermint" and "Install Peppermint" ..  hit the "E" key.

You'll then see text on screen with a line that begins with "linux" and ends with

quiet splash --

Use the arrow keys to to move down to the line that starts with "linux", and across to where it says "quiet splash--", then remove quiet splash --

and replace it with edd=off noapic

then hit F10 to continue booting.

Did the Live USB boot properly now ?

Is there an option to disable "secure boot" in your BIOS ?

How did you create the LiveUSB ?

And have you tried any other Ubuntu 16.04 based distro to see if the issue is/isn't Peppermint specific ?

It seems I'm having a boot problem too but mine is different: I successfully wrote Peppermint 8 x64 to an USB key twice, one using Unetbootin, from Linux Mint 18.3 x64 and another using Rufus, from Windows. My problem is that after "Peppermint is starting" I ALWAYS get a "mounting devloop0 failed can't bla-bla-bla", sorry I can't remember all of the text, but I get to a weird looking screen and left with a command prompt cursor. I checked the sha256sum from the Linux command line so the image is good... I want to install Peppermint 8 but this way it just looks like it's not gonna happen and I tried both the "Try Peppermint" and the "Install Peppermint" options. I'll try that solution of hitting the Tab and E key to go to the -noacpi option, hope it does something. My computer is not UEFI, just plain BIOS, from 2009, it's an Intel 7500 Dual-Core @2.93 Ghz with 4 GB RAM and Q43/45 integrated GPU. Anyway thanks in advance for any help and Happy Holidays.

What software are you using to create the LiveUSB ?
