Thank you very much for that.  I ran on a 64bit laptop installation, and all went exactly as it should.

Will there be a similar upgrade path to future versions, or is it likely to be a re-flash (as it were)?

At this point any answer to that would be speculation.

We're not specifically looking to design in the ability to upgrade PM8 --> PM9 (that would rule out major changes), but if it's possible for us to do or to provide a manual tutorial that's reliable and risk free, we will.

Question, will my personal files and installed applications be affected by the upgrade?  I've never tried anything like this and don't want to reinstall everything after it finishes.

No, user files and installed applications should be unaffected, but a backup never hurts.

Update: I did it. Wow, it was so easy! The only issue is I can't get an image to appear on the log in screen. Everything else went fine. Peppermint rocks!
