Is this client on the same network as the 'remote' ?

Can you explain what is trying to connect to what .. I mean are you trying to connect a Peppermint PC to a NAS on the same network ?

Can you post the output fro
Code: [Select]
ip route

hmmm... lets see.
That remote value  would be my network/DNS on port 1194
Really although I have a NAS I am using Open VPN to connect to my network and then once on my network I access the NAS.
This works perfectly on Windows and Android Devices though the OpenVPN client.

The scenario is, I have my little ASUS Netbook that has P7 on it,
While I am away from home I need to access the files on the NAS or any other shares on my network.

Based off of this thread I have been able to:
  • Setup OpenVpn on my router - it's a nice has done me well  :D - Then I exported the .ovpn file
  • Then I went out and got myself a DNS from noip - Thank you very much  ;)
  • Then I put the OpenVpn clients on the devices I want to give access to my network, My tablet, my colleague's Windows machine
  • After that I imported this .ovpn file to those devices
  • I ran into a snag when I started to get the client working on linux/P7 - I dont think it's a P7 issue but rather  an over all (how to config this properly  on Linux issue:-\

Okay, I don't know if this on its own will fix the issue, but this version of openvpn supports mixed IPv4 and IPv6 environments .. and it can't hurt to have the later version right ;)

Download this file, and double-click it to install
https://launchpad.net/~peppermintos/+archive/ubuntu/pm8-testing/+files/openvpn_2.4.4-1ubuntu1+peppermint0.0.2_amd64.deb

then reboot, and test your vpn again and let us know what happens.

It's coming down to the Certificate as being the problem:
Code: [Select]
Thu Dec  7 13:07:26 2017 OpenVPN 2.4.4 x86_64-pc-linux-gnu [SSL (OpenSSL)] [LZO] [LZ4] [EPOLL] [PKCS11] [MH/PKTINFO] [AEAD] built on Nov 14 2017
Thu Dec  7 13:07:26 2017 library versions: OpenSSL 1.0.2g  1 Mar 2016, LZO 2.08
Thu Dec  7 13:07:26 2017 WARNING: No server certificate verification method has been enabled.  See http://openvpn.net/howto.html#mitm for more info.
Thu Dec  7 13:07:26 2017 TCP/UDP: Preserving recently used remote address: [AF_INET]<Removed>:1194
Thu Dec  7 13:07:26 2017 Attempting to establish TCP connection with [AF_INET]<Removed>:1194 [nonblock]
Thu Dec  7 13:07:43 2017 TCP: connect to [AF_INET]<Removed>:1194 failed: No route to host
Thu Dec  7 13:07:43 2017 SIGUSR1[connection failed(soft),init_instance] received, process restarting

It finds the correct IP/DNS but it's the CERT that it not findings. The link does explain how to create your own cert.
I would say in short linux is not really recognizing the .opvn file it is expecting the three CA, CERT, and Key files.
So my next step is I will read through those docs about setting all that up. And then let you guys know. Thanks for the ideas !  :D

is your 'remote' entry in the format of a hostname or IP address ?

eg.
remote myhost.com 1194
or
remote 88.10.123.11 1194
?

I wonder if that's the problem .. what happens if you (just as a test) change it to the current IP ?

Are you running a firewall in Peppermint ?

What's the output from:
Code: [Select]
ip route

So currently as these steps were performed I am away from my newtork out and about.

I did have a Firewall enabled on this P7 box, I disabled it tried the VPN(Same Result) then I ran the IP ROUTE cmd
