Printer Driver installed...!
« on: December 02, 2017, 05:06:24 pm »
OMG - jaw dropping moment.  I have tried installing the wifi windows driver for our HP printer on my laptop with Win10 and it is flakey at best and usually doesn't connect at all.  At leat half an hours worth of downloads and troubleshooting later and it never connects.

Queue Peppermint (new install).  It found the printer instantly and offered me the print test page option within 3 seconds of selecting install... No way I thought.  There is no way that Linux can do it that much quicker than Win10.  I hit the print button extecting nothing, but low and behold, there was a beautiful test page printed to perfection.

I just had report that as I am still in shock.  I always thought that it was a problem with my Laptop but apparently not!

When it comes to HP printers Linux drivers have been perfect with the correct color and tones. I haven't had the same experience with the Epson drivers, specifically WF3250 where the colors are not correct.

It's great to hear it was so great of an experience for you.  HP printers definitely have the best Linux support that I've seen.  I somewhat remember the days of taking AGES for printer drivers to install on Windows, VS the seconds it takes on Linux.

Your post reminded me of a printer my wife and I had which could not and never would print from Windows bc of a Vista driver thing. It also immediately printed off a liveUSB. It also gave us selectable options like duplex, which according to the manufacturer was not something it should have been able to do. It did.

That was probably one of my experiences with Linux that I'll never forget.

My missus has Win10 on her laptop and I've twice had to install a printer and I can't do it in under 20 minutes without putting a foot wrong, I can have the same printer installed in Peppermint easily under 20 seconds without the added crapware
If you can keep your head while all around are losing theirs then you're not quite grasping the situation

In the 90's Windows printer drivers used to come on a single floppy disk that wasn't even full, what do printers do today that needs a minimum of 700MB more space on the installation **DVD**.
