Cant install Broadcom driver for BCM43142 in live session
« on: November 23, 2017, 12:09:34 pm »
Hi!
It's my first post here.
Very nice distro Peppermint 8.
I am in live session and trying to connect to my wifi network but there is no driver for my wifi adapter in live media usb.
My hp stream 13 has only wifi adapter, there is no ethernet adapter. I dont have any phone with android at home to connect my laptop to internet via tethering.
How to load driver for my chip BCM43142 in live session without installing to hard drive?
Is there any .deb file with this driver I could download from and install without rebooting as I am in live session?
I have another PC connected to internet, now I am writting on it.
Could anyone help me?
Thanks in advace

Can you post the output from:
Code: [Select]
lspci -vnn | grep -i net
and
Code: [Select]
lsusb
and do you mind adding persistence to this LiveUSB ?

Yep, you need the bcmwl-kernel-source drivers, so the first thing you're going to want to do is make the USB stick persistent.

How did you create the LiveUSB stick ?

And what capacity is your USB stick ?

USB stick is 2G.
I made it under linux Mint by something like usb image wtiter.
I know I need bcmwl-kernel source driver, some distros have it in live media, so I can try internet connection in live session.
I would like to purge win10 from my laptop, it has only 32G storage memory.
Unfortunatly some linux distros have poor driver for my wifi adapter compared to windows driver.

Because of the way "USB Image Writer" works, there is no way to add a persistence file to that LiveUSB.

If you use something like Rufus to create the LiveUSB you can .. see here:

I've had good luck with UNetbootin, too...

  • Download the ISO via Torrent (Transmission app)

  • Bake the USB stick using UNetbootin (1000mb persistence)
