Can't get USB WiFi dongle to work (Abandoned)
« on: November 05, 2017, 04:26:53 pm »
Hello. I was trying to install Peppermint 8 on my wife's gaming PC. I have had Pepp 7 on here before, and after copying the driver files into home, 3 lines of commands, all was well. Below are the 3 commands I would run to make it work:

Code: [Select]
sudo dkms add ./rtl8812AU_8821AU_linux
sudo dkms install 8812au/1.0
sudo modprobe 8812au

Now I get the following error message when running the install command:

Code: [Select]
Building initial module for 4.8.0-53-generic
Error! Bad return status for module build on kernel: 4.8.0-53-generic (x86_64)
Consult /var/lib/dkms/rtl8812au/4.3.8.12175.20140902+dfsg/build/make.log for more information.

After Googling this, I think it has to do with the more advanced kernel?? I also tried running the commands below and got the same error.

Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install rtl8812au-dkms

Can anyone point me in the right direction to make this thing work? Will include my inxi -Fz below:

Why is this marked solved, when there's no posted solution ?

Not very helpful to others searching for a solution to a similar problem who'll now think:- "ah, Google suggests this person has a solution" and waste time coming here.

Please don't mark topics as (SOLVED) unless they contain a solution .. If you're abandoning the topic please mark it (ABANDONED) so others know not to waste time trying to replying, or if you've found a solution yourself please either take the time to include the solution (it will help others), or simply leave the thread open and let it fade away quietly .. TIA.

My apologies. I marked it wrong. I just went and changed it. Sorry about that.
