hmmm... after attempting to allow the update to the latest kernel this is returned:

Code: [Select]
E: linux-image-4.10.0-38-generic: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 2
E: linux-image-extra-4.10.0-38-generic: dependency problems - leaving unconfigured
E: linux-image-generic-hwe-16.04: dependency problems - leaving unconfigured
E: linux-generic-hwe-16.04: dependency problems - leaving unconfigured

should I purge?

I purged the kernel that evening... and fired up fine the next day... just rolled thru your steps above and so far so good... now a reboot will require some additional steps to get my wifi dongle working again... back in a wee bit hopefully...

Code: [Select]
sudo rm -v sudo rm -v /lib/modules/4/10.0-37.39-generic/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/8810au.ko
sudo depmod -a
sudo dkms remove 8812au/4.2.2 --all
sudo dkms install 8812au/4.2.2
sudo modprobe 8812au
